On October 18, China Geological Survey (CGS) and China National Geological & Mining Corporation (CGM, a subsidiary of CECEP) reached a cooperation deal with Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) online.
The CGM-CGS combo stood out from fierce competition and successfully won the bid for “High-precision Geochemical Survey of Aquatic Sediment and Heavy Sand Samples in the Saudi Arabian Shield,” which is so far the largest international geological survey project awarded to Chinese companies through an international bid.
The project will carry out a 1:250,000 regional geochemical survey within 540,000 square kilometers of the Saudi Arabian Shield, collect 90,000 aquatic sediment samples and 10,000 heavy sand samples, and obtain high quality data of 76 chemical elements in the samples using high-precision instrument, based on which a number of target mining areas will be defined, helping to achieve a breakthrough in mineral prospecting.
