Arab Hoballah, chief of the Sustainable Lifestyles, Cities and Industry Branch of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Li Xiang, executive chief of Sustainable Urban Development and Livable Garden Community Programme (SUC), recently visited the Xixi Shouzuo project in Hangzhou, which was developed by CECEP Industry Development Co., Ltd. as China’s first international exchange and practice base of sustainable communities.
During the visit, CECEP Industry Development Co., Ltd. and UNEP inaugurated a program to build sustainable communities in China, and held extensive exchanges on the status quo and future development of sustainable buildings.
SUC was jointly launched by UNEP and Jia Cui (China) Environmental Promotive Center (JCEP). Since 2015 dozens of organizations including United Nations Human Settlements Programme, Environmental Development Center of China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection, and China Center for International Economic Exchanges of National Development and Reform Commission have joined as strategic partners, supporters or co-organizers.
Starting in 2017, SUC began to build demonstration communities of sustainable development in China. CECEP Industry Development Co., Ltd., a standard bearer in China’s sustainable architecture, environmental protection and energy conservation sector, has been accepted as its partner for strategic cooperation, which signifies the recognition of it by the top international organization in this field.
The international exchange and practice base of sustainable communities is part of SUC’s endeavors to promote exchanges between sustainable communities within and outside China. With its application and innovation of technologies of sustainable building, landscape ecology, and environmental protection, the Xixi Shouzuo project highlights environment-friendliness and a global vision, and showcases the efforts and achievements of China’s property development companies in promoting sustainable development. It was therefore selected by SUC as the first international exchange and practice base of sustainable communities in China.
Arab Hoballah acknowledged the merits of Xixi Shouzuo in planning concept, design, environment layout and technical innovation, saying that the project was a pleasant surprise to him. He lauded the design as visually impressive, and thought highly of its advanced planning concept and good living environment, which can be learnt by designers elsewhere. He hoped to see more CECEP products and achievements globally, which he said can contribute to sustainable development in other countries.
In 2017, under the support of the UN and its international partners, CECEP Industry Development Co., Ltd. teamed up with SUC to build demonstration communities of sustainable development in China. This marks a step further towards globalization in the company’s explorations for sustainable urban development and livable garden communities.
