Moinak Hydropower Plant in Kazakhstan

The Moinak Hydropower Plant on the Sharyn River in Almaty Province of southern Kazakhstan lies 250 kilometers from the capital city Almaty.

The project agreement includes design, construction, supply of materials, installation, commissioning, training and maintenance. The construction period is 42 months, the maintenance period is two years and the quality guarantee period for main equipment is 20 years.

The Moinak is a diversion type power station. The section of the diversion tunnel is city-gate shaped, with a spray anchor and concrete lining. The total length of the pressure pipeline is 4.2 kilometers, with the 4.5-meter-diameter main pipe buried and branch pipes exposed. The plant has an excavated ground powerhouse and is equipped with two nozzle turbines with a total installed capacity of 300 megawatts. The plant hub is composed of main powerhouse, tail water channel, auxiliary powerhouse, open ground switch station and external traffic.
