On the afternoon of June 18, the United Nations’ “Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Initiative – Global Energy Efficiency Accelerator” project video conference was successfully held in the Chanba Ecological District of Xi’an, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. One of the six accelerator platforms of SEforALL, the project aims to provide systemic energy solutions for cities with cooling and heating as key technologies. China is one of the first four pilot countries of the project, and the project office is located in a consulting company under the umbrella of CECEP.
The meeting discussed the work of the Chanba District since the in-depth assessment phase of the project, and conducted capacity building training on district energy business modes as well as investment and financing, laying a solid foundation for the follow-up development and implementation of the China project of the district energy initiative of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Chanba.
At present, the project has completed rapid assessment in five cities (counties/districts), namely Xi’an Chanba, Jinan, Yinchuan, Baotou and Qianxi. With the support of UNEP, Xi’an Chanba was designated as the first such pilot in China, where in-depth assessment and other related work are underway.
