On November 28, as the impeller of the 55th wind turbine slowly started to operate, all the wind turbines of CECEP’s 300MW offshore wind power project on Nanpeng Island in Yangjiang City, south China’s Guangdong Province, were connected to the grid for power generation.

At present, a total of 180 million kWh of clean energy has been generated since the first batch of wind turbines were connected to the grid. It is estimated that the annual power generation will reach 800 million kWh after all wind turbines are put into operation, which will save around 249,800 tons of standard coal consumed and reduce nearly 454,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, delivering remarkable economic, environmental and social benefits.

This project is the first wind farm to adopt jacket foundation completely in Guangdong Province, which will become the mainstream for deep and off-lying oceans in the future. The design of offshore booster stations is unique as the first internal passage is in the cross shape. The platform weighs less than 3,000 tons; and the internal and external stairs of the platform are combined with the force to withstand wind and waves. The escape and life-saving measures of the platform include crude life rafts and advanced lifeboats, with the helicopter hovering function at the top. The beautiful modern onshore centralized control center fully embodies the concepts of technological development and humanistic management.

The project is located in one of the most complicated sea areas in China. During the construction process, the project overcame natural environmental risks such as typhoon, monsoon, thunderstorm and swell, as well as the difficulties of a short construction period, complex seabed topography and geological conditions in the project area and a wide range of water depth change. By optimizing the construction organization and engineering, the company seized every time frame for construction, and realized the first ever winter installation of wind turbines in the South China Sea, thus charting a technical path for winter construction in the sea area.
