On the morning of February 25, a national commendation conference was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the country’s accomplishments in poverty eradication. Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, presented awards and certificates to national honorary title recipients for their contributions to the poverty alleviation cause and delivered an important speech. CEO Yu Honghui attended the conference on behalf of CECEP. The conference commended outstanding units and individuals who have made key contributions to China’s poverty eradication drive, and Zhang Yang from the Party work department of CECEP won the title of national role model in poverty alleviation.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), CECEP made continuous efforts to help designated poverty-stricken areas rise from poverty through targeted measures while endeavoring to boost local people’s confidence and increase their capacity for self-development. It implemented a number of projects to lift the impoverished people out of poverty through industrial, consumption, education and health care efforts, injecting momentum to local development.
By the end of 2020, CECEP had invested a total of 20 billion yuan in industrial development in poverty-stricken areas, of which some 60 million yuan went to targeted poverty-alleviation areas. It also attracted more than 33 million yuan of relief fund from private enterprises and charitable organizations, provided training for more than 4,000 grassroots officials and technical personnel, helped purchase and sell agricultural products worth more than 5 million yuan, sponsored over 2,400 poor college students, and created over 2,000 jobs. These efforts greatly promoted local economic development and improved people’s living standards, making a significant contribution to China’s targeted poverty alleviation campaign.
