In face of the Wuhan virus outbreak, Xiangtan Water Company affiliated to CECEP focuses on prevention and control efforts while securing water supply to pull its weight as a central state-owned enterprise and demonstrate its sentiment to the people when crisis comes.
Due to difficulties with material procurement during the Spring Festival, the People’s Hospital of Xiangxiang City, Hunan Province, saw a shortage of disinfectant in stock and asked for support. Under the coordination by environmental protection departments at municipal and district levels, Xiangtan Water Company immediately donated 300 liters of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant to the hospital to assist its medical wastewater treatment.
In order to ensure water supply for the city during the special period, Xiangtan Water Company began offering a 24-hour customer service hotline on the Lunar New Year’s Eve, with water supply emergency repair personnel, especially members of the Communist Party of China, on standby day and night. From January 24 to 31, 2020, the service hotline handled 347 customer inquiries.
Emergency repair
While ensuring the normal operation of pipe networks and water meters in all residential quarters, Xiangtan Water Company increased the frequency of inspection and strictly implemented the three-level water quality inspection system. Water quality testing stations have strengthened residual chlorine monitoring and quality management of factory water and pipe network water to make sure water quality meets standard. To reach the goal, its water plants have enhanced inspection efforts, increasing the frequency of testing from once every two hours to once every 30 minutes.
Equipment maintenance and water quality inspection
To effectively avoid cross-infection as part of the epidemic prevention and control efforts, Xiangtan Water Company also advised local residents to use customer service hotlines for inquiries and complaints. It also pledged on local mainstream media that during the epidemic prevention and control period, residential water supply would not be disconnected because of non-payment of the bill.
