On November 26, Qin Lihua, deputy general manager of the East Africa Branch of China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) under CECEP and manager of Tenende-Matema Road (34.6 km) project, attended the completion ceremony of Makwale Primary School located at the site of the project. With a total cost of US$50,000, the school assistance project was co-funded by CGC East Africa Branch (70%) and Belgian company Kim’s Chocolate (30%) and consists of two classroom buildings and a public toilet.

The completion ceremony kicked off at 3:30 p.m. amidst enthusiastic singing and dancing performed by local villagers and pupils to express their joy. Executives of the education authority of Kyela District addressed the ceremony, hailing the two companies’ performance in fulfilling their social responsibility, highly recognizing the quality of the construction project, and extending appreciation to both companies for their selfless contributions. Qin Lihua was invited to give a speech at the ceremony. He expressed gratitude for local villagers for their great assistance and support in the road project undertaken by CGC. “Lending a helping hand” is a tradition CGC has followed in its overseas operations, reflecting the company’s belief that giving back to society and assisting local development are its corporate social responsibilities, he said. Qin also expressed hopes that traditional friendship between peoples of the two countries will continue to blossom in generations to come.

CGC East Africa Branch also donated 50 sets of new desks and chairs to Makwale Primary School at the ceremony. Representatives from all parties involved toured around the newly-completed campus together and discussed the use of the new facilities in details.

Over the years, maintaining a foothold in the African market, CGC East Africa Branch has worked to enhance relations with local communities by conducting charitable activities that helped build corporate image based on characteristics of their projects, with an aim to implement the “Belt and Road” spirit while fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.
