The rural drinking water safety enhancement project in Guzhen County, Anhui Province, is a major measure of targeted poverty alleviation to ensure impoverished households in local rural areas “are free from worries over food and clothing and have access to compulsory education, basic medical services and safe housing.” General Water of China (Guzhen) Sewage Treatment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “GWC Guzhen Company”) has laid 150,000 meters of DN20-315 pipelines for the project, bringing tap water into 3,316 households (including 249 poor households) in 32 natural villages. At the same time, GWC Guzhen Company built chlorine-refilling pressure bump stations in urban-rural fringe areas to solve problems plaguing residents in the county’s northern suburb, such as insufficient pressure of water supply pipelines and substandard chlorine residue.

According to the unified arrangement of the Water Bureau of Guzhen County on poverty reduction through water conservancy efforts, GWC Guzhen Company has placed top priority on the project in its effort to promote targeted poverty alleviation, while continuing to advance epidemic prevention and control. Since April 1, the company has organized six teams to install tap water systems in rural poor households. Following the standard of ensuring “each household has an individual water meter and an individual faucet,” they helped poor households lay pipelines, install water meters and faucets, and clean the construction sites after finishing installation within designated time limits.

After one month of tireless efforts, nearly 20,000 rural residents in the county eventually had gained access to safe, clean tap water as of May 1, 2020. The project guarantees the supply of safe drinking water for rural households in Guzhen, further enhancing the living quality of local residents.
