On May 29, CGC Southern Africa Branch officially signed a contract for three large-diameter stormwater pipe-jacking projects along the Maputo Ring Road and National Road N200 in Mozambique. The project is expected to effectively address long-standing local challenges related to inadequate drainage, waterlogging and damage to public infrastructure.
According to reports, poor flood drainage in the area has persisted for many years. During the rainy season, heavy rainfall frequently causes severe water accumulation, disrupting residents’ daily travel and lives, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and associated public health risks, and threatening the safety of road infrastructure. As a result, resolving these issues has become an urgent priority for the local community. The project will employ large-diameter pipe-jacking technology, which requires no extensive road excavation, minimizing disruption to traffic and residents’ daily activities. The technology also offers high construction efficiency, strong structural stability, and excellent drainage and seepage-control performance, enabling it to efficiently remove bottlenecks in the drainage network and mitigate urban flooding in the area.
The project represents a practical example of CGC’s commitment to advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and fulfilling its responsibilities to local communities. Upon completion, it will eliminate the risk of seasonal flooding in the area, significantly improve the living environment, ensure the reliable operation of transportation infrastructure, and provide a solid foundation for Maputo’s high-quality urban development and improved public well-being.
