In the preparations for the Winter Olympics over six years, CECEP gave full play to the advantages of its main business, made every effort to provide guarantee, thus contributing its strength to the incomparable ice and snow grand event.

Green Power Lighting up the Winter Olympics Stadium with Splendid Wind and Solar Energy

Green is the background color of Beijing Winter Olympics. During the Winter Games, all 26 venues in the three major competition zones will use green power, which means that 100% green power supply will be realized for all venues for the first time in the Olympic history.

Green power means power generated from renewable energy. In China, it mainly comes from solar photovoltaic power generation and wind power generation, and is green, clean and environment-friendly. The venue construction and energy supply of the Winter Olympics are the important foundation and guarantee for the successful hosting of the Olympic Games, and are also the key areas of carbon emission control. As the main force to develop ecological civilization and one of the green power providers for the Winter Olympics, CECEP is duty-bound to shoulder the responsibility.

During the Winter Olympics, Lvnaobao Wind Farm will provide 12.71 million kilowatt-hours of green power for the Winter Olympics venues and supporting service facilities, accounting for 7.94% of the total trading volume of green power during the Winter Olympics, equivalent to saving 4,141 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 12,700 tons or so. Huailai PV Power Station of CECEP Solar will provide 2.4 million kilowatt-hours of green power for Winter Olympics venues and supporting service facilities, accounting for 1.5% of the total trading volume of green power during Winter Olympics, equivalent to saving 782 tons of standard coal and reducing about 2,393 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, thus effectively injecting CECEP’s strength into the green winter Olympics.

In order to secure the steady delivery of clean energy into winter Olympics venues, CECEP Wind takes extraordinary measures, promptly organizes technicians and team leaders to overcome difficulties, and earnestly carries out the investigation of potential safety hazards of low-temperature power supply in winter Olympics. Up to now, CECEP Wind-power Corporation has inspected more than 740 sets of generators and patrolled over 600 kilometers of integrated circuit, eliminating 82 potential safety hazards. The low-temperature operation of the equipment has been included in the key contents of daily inspection to ensure the safe and stable supply of green wind power to the Winter Olympics venues and light up thousands of households. The North China branch of CECEP Solar Energy Technology Co.,Ltd has also quickly worked out an action plan, strengthened patrol and inspection of operation data, network equipment and field facilities to ensure that the operation of power stations in the region is well-organized and under control so as to resolutely fulfill the task of green power supply for the Winter Olympics.

Not only has it undertaken the important task of supplying green power, but CECEP has also actively fulfilled the responsibility as a central enterprise to assist Winter-Olympic supporting expressways to open to traffic smoothly.

Zhangshang Expressway is one of the key transportation projects supporting the Winter Olympics, and it needs to cross the 220KV line of Danjinghe Wind Farm, a subsidiary of CECEP. In order to ensure that the project is completed and opened to traffic on time, CECEP resolutely implemented the power outage order by giving up the power surge at the end of the year for more profit. Hu Wanming, a model worker of CECEP, was designated to take charge of the Pioneer Workers and was responsible for the emergency response during the power outage. The Pioneers overcame the adverse effects of bad weather, adopted the clinging strategy, carefully worked out and rehearsed all sorts of emergency plans. Each person worked more than 20 hours a day for nearly 100 hours continuously, achieving zero errors in the whole process and zero accidents in the whole period, making outstanding contributions to the smooth opening of the highway.

Build High-quality Supporting Projects for Winter Olympics

The training base is the cradle of future famous players who will win gold and silver. Hebei National Ski Project Training Base is a national ice and snow sports training base, located in Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Area in Chengde. Its altitude, climate, track and other conditions are basically the same as those of cross-country skiing and biathlon venues of Beijing Winter Olympics, therefore it is an ideal place for the national team to prepare for the Winter Olympics.

As a professional construction company, Beijing Geotechnical and Investigation Engineering Institute (referred to as BJYT for short), a subsidiary of CECEP, participated in the overall construction of the air film training hall of the disc skater in Hebei National Ski Project Training Base. The completion of this stadium effectively solved the problem of skiing training for athletes in non-snow seasons, and provided a solid guarantee for athletes to prepare for the Winter Olympics.

During the construction of the venue, BJYT has carefully organized, scientifically managed, inverted construction periods and charted operations, so as to promote the venue construction with high standards and quality. As the venue is located in a national 4A-level scenic area, before construction the project team moved local vegetation to different places for protection, peeled off and stored all the undisturbed soil on the construction surface, and restored it as it was after the construction to ensure that the soil was not lost and the ecology did not change due to construction. In addition, the project team also set up necessary protective and enclosure measures around the construction site to prevent wild animals from entering the construction site, doing their best to minimize the ecological impact.

Coincidentally, in order to improve the landscape effect and ecological function of vegetation along the Winter Olympic Corridor, CECEP Techand Ecology undertook the national key research and development project “Integration Innovation and Demonstration of Vegetation Rapid Restoration Technology of the Bare Wound along the Winter Olympic Corridor” in 2019, and relied on its own "Restoration and Treatment Project (the third bid section) of the Mountain Ecological Environment Damaged within the Visible Range of Both Sides of Chicheng section of Yanchong Expressway" to carry out experimental demonstration and technical promotion. The project adopts techniques such as phytoremediation technology of polymer organic fiber reinforced soil, aggregate guest soil spraying combined with flexible ecological protection technology, and vegetation fiber forest blanket technology, improves the spray-seeding base material with plant fiber and adhesives, selects native plants such as Ostryopsis davidiana Decne and Elsholtzia stauntoni Benth, and carefully implements it in combination with vegetation blanket covering and micro-spray water-saving maintenance.

With the application of these new technologies, the technical problems along the Winter Olympic Corridor and around the venues, such as cold and dry winter climate, large bare wound area, high and steep slope, slow natural recovery of vegetation, have been overcome one by one. After the completion of the project, the Winter Olympic Corridor has become a beautiful window for China to show the achievements of ecological civilization development to the world.

Treat the waste and purify water to uphold the principle of Green Olympics

In order to practice the concept of Green Olympics, CECEP gives full play to the advantages of its main business, and undertakes the treatment of some solid wastes and sewage in Beijing during the Winter Olympics. Xiaotangshan Reclaimed Water Plant and Machikou Reclaimed Water Plant, both subsidiaries of CECEP, use intelligent water treatment measures such as precise aeration system and multi-stage A2O process to improve quality and reduce consumption. It is estimated that they can treat 85,000 tons of sewage, reduce 14.5 tons of COD and 1.7 tons of ammonia nitrogen daily, and make a first-class "drainage guarantee" for the successful hosting of the Winter Olympics. In addition, the two water plants also use the sewage source heat pump technology to extract low-grade heat energy from sewage to heat the plant area, which can save 136 tons of standard coal and reduce 339 tons of carbon dioxide emission per day.

In addition to sewage, a large amount of domestic wastes generated in Olympic venues and athletes' residences also need to be treated safely and efficiently. As the wastes in Olympic-related places are special, they need to be treated according to the medical waste treatment standards. Beijing Nangong Biomass Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as Nangong Biomass for short), a designated company for the reception and disposal of domestic waste in Olympic-related places, specially built a 50-ton/day automatic feeding system to realize the direct incineration of waste, and combined and optimized the existing treatment facilities with the new system to further improve the waste treatment capacity. During the Winter Olympics, Nangong Biomass is expected to treat over 3,000 tons of domestic waste from Olympic-related places, providing a solid guarantee for the competition environment during the Winter Olympics.
