Song Xin, chairman of China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP), was invited to attend and address the 12th Forum of Green Development and Low-Carbon Life on June 11. Under the theme of “New Low-Carbon Journey,” the forum was hosted by China News Service under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Municipal Government of Beijing. China’s special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua attended the forum to discuss the topic of green development with nearly 100 experts and scholars.
In his address to the forum, Song noted that promoting green, circular and low-carbon economic development is a fundamental solution to solving China’s problems related to resources and environmental protection as well as a primary measure to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. In the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), CECEP established a special department and an institute to carry forward carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Moreover, it has taken an active part in the construction of the national carbon trading market and provided support for formulating carbon peaking roadmaps and devising climate investment and financing systems for key industries, regions and enterprises. In the future, CECEP will establish a dual-driver pattern featuring “zero carbon emission industry + carbon negative technology,” set a role model in “zero carbon emissions,” strengthen its capacity to provide “carbon neutrality” standards and technologies, form an advanced “carbon neutrality” system and actively participate in the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality campaign, thus making contributions to realizing China’s target of peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.
CECEP was cited as a “role model in low-carbon development of the year” at the forum.
