The ground-breaking ceremony for the Grande Comore section of the Hahaya-Mitsamiouli highway and the Dindi-Lingoni highway, built by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), a second-tier subsidiary of China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP), was held at the CGC base camp in Grande Comore, Comoros.
Comorian President Azali Assoumani, Chinese Ambassador to Comoros He Yanjun, foreign envoys such as Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Comoros, representatives of Chinese enterprises, and more than 2,000 local residents witnessed the ceremony.
The project was launched by the government of Comoros and financed by Saudi National Development Fund. It consists of two sections, with total investment of 10.77 billion Comorian francs (about 22 million euros). The Hahaya-Mitsamiouli section in Grande Comore extends 21 kilometers from the airport to Mitsamiouli. The road will be upgraded to an asphalt concrete-paved highway with an average width of 5.5 meters. Construction of this section will be completed in 14 months.
Over the past three years since it entered Comoros, CGC has created a number of jobs for local people. In the future, the company will increase investment in Comoros to boost the development of the local economy.
When addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, President Assoumani praised the traditional friendship between Saudi Arabia and Comoros and expressed his congratulations to the launch of the project undertaken by CGC. He spoke highly of the project’s importance for Grande Comore residents from the perspectives of politics, economy and social progress, and announced a series of national plans on road upgrade and renovation for the next few years as well as the government’s outlook and policies for economic development. He also called on all people in the country to unite together to build a better home.
