From November 1-3, the 2018 Annual General Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was held at Diaoyutai Hotel in Beijing. Liu Dashan, chairman of China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP), was invited to attend the meeting and delivered a speech at the Roundtable on Low-Carbon and Circular Economy for Green Development.
At the roundtable, Chairman Liu joined other guests from home and abroad to discuss how to promote the establishment and improvement of an ecological-economic system for low-carbon and circular development. The attendees conducted in-depth discussions around three topics: challenges and strategies of environmental governance mechanism innovation, enterprises’ role in circular economy and establishment of cooperative partnerships. Chairman Liu noted that achieving low-carbon and circular development would be a tough, time-consuming process that requires thorough coordination among all parties concerned, especially cooperation among the government, enterprises, financial institutes, scientific research academies and the public. As a central SOE specializing in energy conservation and environmental protection, CECEP has long been committed to energy conservation, ecological protection, resource recycling, and development and utilization of clean energy, serving as a firm practitioner and promoter of green, low-carbon and circular economic development.
Established in 1992 with the approval of the Chinese government, CCICED is a high-level not-for-profit international advisory body on policies related to environment and development. Other distinguished guests attending the roundtable included Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada, and Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Secretary General of CCICED.
