On December 4-5, 2017, the third Chinese and Japanese Business Executive and Former Senior Officials’ Dialogue was convened in Tokyo. CECEP Chairman Liu Dashan gave a speech as a representative of the Chinese side.
In his speech Mr. Liu gave an introduction to his company and the energy conservation and environmental protection market in China. He made three proposals for practical cooperation in this area between Chinese and Japanese companies. First, with Chinese and Japanese economies at different stages of development and being highly complementary, businesses in the energy conservation and environmental protection sector in the two countries should seize the opportunities arising in the development of China’s energy conservation and environmental protection industry. Second, Chinese and Japanese businesses should jump on the opportunities opened up by the Belt and Road Initiative to jointly explore the third-party market, and tap into their respective advantages in capital, technology, talent and resources to actively explore the international market of energy conservation and environmental protection. Their cooperation can deliver win-win results. Third, companies of the two countries should have a long-term vision, and set up a cooperation platform on which they can carry out deeper practical cooperation in accordance with rules of the market in order to seek common development. Mr. Liu’s speech resonated with the audience. The communique released at the end of the dialogue urged the two countries to conduct pragmatic win-win cooperation in the fields such as energy conservation and environmental protection, and give full play to their respective advantages to cooperate closely in exploring the third-party market.
Co-hosted by CCIEE and Kaidanren (Japan Business Federation), Chinese and Japanese Business Executives and Former Senior Officials’ Dialogue is aimed to offer a platform for businesses of the two countries to exchange views, and is recognized by both governments. Several statesmen including Shinzo Abe showed up at its third session and gave speeches. Among its 70-odd participants were former Chinese Vice Premier and CCIEE Chairman Zeng Peiyan, former Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, business leaders, former high-ranking officials, and researchers.
