On June 3, CGC successfully signed the design-and-build contract for the CHIPATA–LUNDAZI section of the M12 Road in Zambia’s Eastern Province. The project covers the rehabilitation of 48 kilometers of roadway from KM42 to KM90 and periodic maintenance works on 91 kilometers of roadway from KM90 to KM181, including 10 kilometers of urban roads.
Located along a key transportation corridor in Zambia’s Eastern Province, the project is both a major public welfare initiative aimed at improving the local road network and strengthening regional connectivity, and an important example of CGC’s commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative and the advancement of practical China-Africa cooperation. Construction works will include earthworks, pavement treatment, bridges and culverts, drainage systems, and a full range of supporting road infrastructure, comprehensively addressing shortcomings in the region’s transportation network.
Upon completion, the project will not only help resolve local transportation bottlenecks and insufficient road capacity, improving traffic efficiency and reducing travel and transport times, but will also facilitate access to healthcare, education and daily services for local residents. In addition, it will improve channels for the transportation and marketing of agricultural products and other goods, stimulate economic activity along the route, and provide strong transportation support for improving livelihoods and enhancing economic development in Zambia’s Eastern Province.
The signing of this contract marks an important breakthrough in CGC’s continued expansion in the Zambian market, further strengthening the company’s brand advantage and market position in Africa’s road infrastructure sector. Going forward, CGC will uphold the highest standards of safety and quality, strive to deliver a high-quality overseas public welfare project, continue enhancing its international brand presence, deepen China-Africa infrastructure cooperation, contribute to local communities through excellence in project delivery, and demonstrate the responsibility of a central state-owned enterprise.
