Tanzanian President Samia Hassan Cut the Ribbon for the Border Post and the Launch of the 34KM Highway

On August 7th, local time, Tanzanian President Samia Hassan attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Kasumulu border post in Mbeya region and the launching ceremony of the 34KM Highway undertaken by China Geo-engineering Corporation. Relevant personnel from East Africa Branch attended the ceremonies.

Kasumulu border post is an important border channel connecting Tanzania and Malawi. The project started on October 1, 2019. The project is divided into first, second and third phases, and the first and second phases have been completed. The project is designed as a one-stop post, which will greatly shorten the time and improve the efficiency of customs clearance, provide support for the growing economic and trade logistics needs of Tanzania and Malawi, and create favorable conditions for promoting cultural exchanges and economic and trade development between the two peoples. The 34KM Highway is the main road leading to Lake Malawi from Kasumulu border post after entering Tanzania. The project started in July 2015 and will be handed over in January 2020. The completion of the project is conducive to promoting the economic development around Lake Malawi, such as fishery, tourism and agriculture, bringing benefit to the local people. The local people cheered, sang and danced festively at the ceremony. 

At the foundation laying and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the project, Hassan fully affirmed and spoke highly of China Geo-engineering Corporation and the project. Government officials such as Governor of Mbeya region and Tanzanian parliamentarians who attended the ceremony expressed their appreciation for the excellent project by China Geo-engineering Corporation in their speeches.
